Scrap Busting – Quilt Binding

I’ve finally finished my first small quilt and wanted it to be unique and have a lot of colour.
I had no extra money to spend on this project as i wasn’t entirely sure I would even do a very good job, being my first quilt.

I decided to use plain colours and use up some scraps and what i had in my stash.

after the piecing and quilting the binding and thought… nothing will go!!! i decided to use a few pieces (a lot) of the scraps to make the back fit in more with the front as it’s quite plain.

I decided to make my binding
3 1/2 inches wide. I attached all the pieces together as you would large pieces and cut off the excess.

There are some great tutorials on how to do this but my favourite is the ultimate quilt binding
by Jenny at the Missouri quilt company in this video

I’m pretty happy
with how it all turned out. I can’t wait to try more scrap busting ideas. Now i have all those scraps from this quilt to use up. I’m thinking they would be perfect for a mug rug!

  1. I LOVE the look of this quilt! What a great idea for scraps! Also, how did you ever find time to make a quilt with two little men running around?! Good for you!
