Since posting my little girl bag tutorial on my previous blog in September 2013 it has become the most viewed tutorial on my blogs. I have since learnt a great deal more about pattern making!
I have also had great success selling these bags at markets and online.
Please be aware This PDF pattern and tutorial is for personal use only if you would like to sell the bags at markets or online, you can purchase the licence to do so.

The best bit about this bag is it’s easy and only uses up 2 fat quarters! The seam allowance for this project is 1/4″
Items you’ll need are:
Cotton Outer fabric
Cotton Lining fabric
Printed Pattern pieces as marked.
Mark the pleat marks and the centre on each outer piece.
Align each of the markings with the centre marking creating a pleat.
Baste stitch this at 1/8″ inch.
Attach each upper piece to the top of the each main piece with a 1/4″ seam.
Press the seam allowance up and top stitch.
Sew the two main pieces right sides together from around the sides.
clip the curves and turn right side out
Fold each Strap in half then fold each side into the middle and fold in half again.
Stitch down each long side, 1/8th from the edge.
Sew lining pieces around the sides leaving a 2″- 3″ hole for turning
Putting it together
Mark on 1 1/2″ away from each side seam on the front and back of the bag. Place each end of a strap on the inner of the marking, one strap on each side (See pic). Be sure to check the straps aren’t twisted. and baste stitch.
Put the main pieces into the lining right sides together, match up the seams and pin around the top.
Sew 1/4 all the way around the top.
Pull the main pieces through the hole you left at the bottom of the lining.
Close the hole at the bottom by edge stitching.
Put the lining into the bag, press and top stitch.
And you have a very cute little girls bag. Perfect for a day of shopping or playing!
