Tortola – Top 4 of 5

Sewing 5 Tops

I’ve been excited about this one! I wanted something that was summer ready although it’s not that hot here yet.

I decided to make the Tortola top with a regular notched neckline.I wanted a challenge before the BIG challenge next week (hint it’s elastic thread) so i jumped in! I also decided that it was a good idea to go with the full bust adjustment.

This pattern is cut on the bias. This really scared me and rightly so… as the fabric stretched as i cut. I had to cut the facings twice. The second time i fixed the cut interfacing pieces to the fabric then cut the fabric to stabilise it.

The BAD news is the notched neckline didn’t go to plan because of the stretched fabric. The GOOD news is i ended up with a cute pleat! The full bust adjustment was not required after all. but the top still fits and you can’t really notice anything except the darts are not really where they should be and the top has a slightly bigger feel.

I really love this top, the fabric, the feel and it was so easy to make once i got going! The facings make this such a quick sew!

I will be making many of these for summer however i will choose a slightly thicker fabric to make it easier to work with. I’ve had so many people ask me about this fabric already! It’s on trend for sure!

I’m pretty excited to make the next top!

And i have a few bag designs to work on in the next few weeks to get out to testers.

Check out the other tops in this series!
