Fitting in a little bit of sewing time this week has been hard! i did however have good motivation to sew up this little Freehand pack and review it for you.
This is a little bag with a lot of features including, three strap options, an optional divider in the main department for a water bottle and a zip pocket at the front. It includes instructions for using a pre-made double pull zip or making your own!
This bag is really perfect for kids or adults. Wear it so many different ways, in endless fabrics! The fabric i chose was Happy Park cotton from spotlight and a mid pink solid for the lining.
I really love patterns that use photos. Andrie Designs uses photos and is really well written! I found it really easy to understand, once I picked all my options!
It was really hard to choose which options I wanted however I soon realized I could make more in the near future! I chose the cross body option, but I changed the width of the straps to 1.5” instead of 2” only due to the fact I couldn’t get a 2” ring. I used a 1.5″ D ring and a slider.
I also used a chunky zip that i already had that had 2 zipper pulls on it but the pattern gives great instructions on how to make your own 2 zipper pull zip. As my zip was chunky i also had to increase my top stitch seam allowance from 1/4 to 3/8″ This worked out OK with the drop in lining as well,
I had a lot of fun sewing this bag, i had a little trouble with the rounded corners as you might be able to tell, i also don’t like drop in linings for bags, but it wasn’t as bad as i had expected. I would make this bag again and again!
It turned out super cute in this fabric, it’s a really good intermediate bag. It’s so well written that an advanced beginner could totally pull it off and as with most bags, the more you sew it the better you would get. Slow and steady with this bag pattern will get a great result every time.
This pattern is a great pattern to invest in for your collection, value for money, well written and great fun to sew.
