Little Girl Bag Sewing Tutorial

Since posting my little girl bag sewing tutorial on my previous blog in September 2013 it has become the most viewed tutorial on my blog. I have since learnt a great deal more about pattern making!

The best bit about this bag is it's easy and only uses up 2 fat quarters! The seam allowance for this project is 1/4"

Items you'll need are:
1 Fat Quarter for Exterior
1 Fat Quarter for Lining Fabric

Mark the pleat marks and the centre on each of the Bottom pieces Align each of the markings with the centre marking creating a pleat.

Baste stitch this at 1/8”.

Sew each top piece to the top of the each bottom piece with a 1/4” seam.
Press the seam allowance up and top stitch 1/8” from the seam

Sew the two newly sewn bag pieces right sides together from around the sides.clip the curves and turn right side out

Fold each handle in half along the length of the the fabric then fold each side into the middle and fold in half again. Stitch down each long side, 1/8” from the edges.

Place the lining pieces right sides together and sew the lining pieces around the sides with a 1/4” seam allowance leaving a 2”- 3” hole in the bottom for turning.

Mark on 1 1/2” away from each side seam on the front and back of the bag. Place each end of a handle on the inside of the marking, one handle should be on each side of the bag.

Be sure to check the handles aren’t twisted. and baste stitch 1/8” from the raw edge.

Put the main pieces into the lining right sides together, match up the seams and pin around the top.
Sew all the way around the top with a 1/4” seam allowance.

Pull the bag right side out through the hole you left at the bottom of the lining.

Close the hole at the bottom of the lining by edge stitching. Push the lining inside the bag and press.
Top stitch around the top of the bag.

And you have a very cute little girls bag. Perfect for a day of shopping or playing!
