Foundation paper piece patterns can be used for so many different things, quilts, mini quilts, pouches, bags, mug rugs and more. One of the items i love to make is mug rugs or coasters, they are so cute and great to give as gifts. If your new to FPP You can check out my instructional video on Youtube.
I just released my Valentines FPP pattern and made this mug rug. You could easily add embroidery, quilting or decorative stitches.
To make my FPP patterns into a mug rug you will need to attach fusible fleece to the wrong side of the final piece following the manufactures instructions.
Use your finished FPP block as a template to cut the fleece and a piece of coordinating fabric.
Place the fabric piece right sides together onto the FPP Piece and stitch around the square with a 1/4" seam allowance leaving a turning hole. Clip the corners being careful not to clip into your stitches.
Pull the mug rug right side out through your turning hole, pushing out all the corners. Press well. Press the turning hole in. Hand stitch closed or edge stitch as i have.
You may choose to quilt your mug rug before stitching it together or after. Hide the thread ends by using a hand needle and pulling them though the inside of the mug rug.
