Easy Bookmark - Lorelei Jayne

Easy Bookmark

Creating a bookmark is one of the quickest and easiest craft project you can make and can be used and appreciated for so long. Fabric bookmarks make amazing gifts too.

I created this bookmark because I only had a tiny bit of this fabric fat quarter left and it’s a fabric I bought in Japan, I wanted to see it often to remind me of my trip, all those nostalgic feelings!

For this project you’ll need to cut 2 pieces of fabric and 1 piece of fusible fleece that is 7 “ x 3” You can attach a loop like I have. I used a piece of double fold poly-cotton bias binding that I folded in half and stitched. However you can use ribbon, Fabric or elastic.

The fusible fleece will allow you to quilt the piece. You can either quilt one side before you stitch the bookmark together or put it together and then quilt.

Attach the fusible fleece to one piece following the manufacturers instructions.

Mark your quilt lines with a frixon pen. Quilt your lines with a stitch length 2.5 - 3.
attach your tag or ribbon with a basting stitch at the top.

Place the two fabric pieces right sides together and stitch around with a 1/4" seam allowance leaving a hole in one long side for turning.
Clip the corners being careful to not cut through the stitches.

Pull the bookmark right side out, being careful to point out the corners and press with an iron. Fold in the turning hole. Stitch around the bookcase with a 1/8" edge stitch closing the turning hole.

This bookmark makes a cute gift with a book, colouring book and pencil case.
